velvet kente is: tim anthony,(rhodes, bass, vocals) jamaal lee(drums) & joshua.(vocals, guitar, ego). it is the goal of this collective to consistently make an aural connection with all that will listen with an open mind.

Velvet Kente has been together for nearly three years as a four-piece genre-dodging outfit consisting of Joshua on vocals and rhythm guitar, Steven Robinson on lead guitar, Tim Anthony (son of True Soul founder Lee Anthony) on keys, and Jamal Lee on drums. Their most obvious influences include Afro-Caribbean music, indie rock, punk, blues mythos, and gospel. But otherwise there’s no transparent consistency in the sound outside of Joshua’s heart-wrenched vocals, which lie somewhere between a coarse scream and a sweat-stained Pentecostal baritone.-Natalie Elliot, Oxford American

The Black Constellation - Ode To Octavia Part 12: Sparkles…Recollections Of The Wraith 

The Black Constellation consists of Shabazz Palaces, THEESatisfaction and artist/director Maikoiyo Alley-Barnes. “Sparkles…Recollections Of The Wraith” is Part 12 of an installation dedicated to science fiction writer Octavia Butler. The visuals are luxurious in color and combine an earthly and ethereal reality awareness much like Butler’s sci-fi narratives.
